Flatlands

This land

simmers with boredom

And the lovers of it pasture

drive home on long highways

What else is there to do, but watch the immaculate

suburban facades and wind blown trash cans

at night, and hear the true sound of nothing?

No reason to break, blow, and burn them in some fleeting insight

These are genuine Grade A lives roosting

Glorious people with children, dogs, and lawns

No reason to ban them to irrelevance

But why put lassitude where there is none?

I’d say boredom moves

after certain sensations arise within us

But who would ever want to parcel that out?

Play doctor to a circulating feeling that moves

through insularity--I think it would have the metallic

cordial, and slightly hazy feeling of a car running without wheels

Inert, but still working
